Just over an hour of walking could take you to the charming Hope Cove, with its two beaches, pubs and restaurants, or in the opposite direction, you could find yourself in the popular Estuary town of Salcombe, for more stunning beaches, shops and restaurants.
Shopping in Salcombe – for its independent boutiques, upmarket branded nautical retailers, art galleries, gift shops, ice cream and retro sweet shops.
Gin experience – learn the art of distillation at Salcombe Gin School or just enjoy a drink in their fabulous bar.
Dining out – close to Driftwood Holiday Lodge there are a variety of places to eat out for all the family (including dogs), from quintessentially English pubs with log fires and great roasts in the local village of Marlborough, to private dining in a cosy, heated, glass pod, at the Lobster Pod Bistro, Hope Cove, with spectacular panoramic views over the sea. For those looking for spectacular fine dining, try Restaurant Twenty Seven in Kingsbridge.
Cream teas – there are plenty of great opportunities to stop for a Devonshire Cream Tea. Remember, here the clotted cream is thickly spread first, and finished with a dollop of strawberry jam!
Beach walks – So many that are dog friendly and allow dogs off lead, including Soar Mill Cove, just a 15 minute walk over some stunning landscape from Driftwood Holiday Lodge.
Surfing – Winter is the optimum time of year to go surfing in Salcombe. Offshore winds are from the northwest with some shelter here from southwest winds. Check out the surf forecast for more details.

Boat trips – Passenger ferry runs from Salcombe to East Portlemouth runs all year round. Or hire a boat of your own.
Crabbing – You can purchase your net, crabbing line, bucket and bait from many little shops.
Spa treatments – Pamper yourself with a luxury treatment or a spa day at one of the spa hotels in Salcombe or the surrounding local area – Salcombe Harbour Hotel & Spa or Soar Mill Cove Hotel & Spa (under 10 minutes walk from Driftwood Lodge).
Overbeck’s Museum and gardens – National Trust home and grounds, with an excellent tea room and exotic plants (10 minute drive from the lodge, but beware parking is limited, or walk there in just under the hour following the coastal path). Ideal for all the family, particularly if any of you are keen gardeners. Check their website for opening times.
Golf – There are nearby golf courses in Thurlestone and Bigbury. There is also a cliff-top course near Kingsbridge.
Cosy up in Driftwood Lodge – play some board games, read a book, do a puzzle, watch the TV or simply enjoy the sheer tranquillity of being in the countryside, and go stargazing at night. For city dwellers who are accustomed to light pollution, this is a real novelty!
